The Board Corner

Whidbey General Hospital faces a challenging future. The island population is changing, causing different demands for service. Couple this with changes in remuneration policies and you can see how we must reconfigure our policies, perhaps even change our functional structure to meet the needs of our community. To meet this challenge we need the support of all our stakeholders.

Who are our stakeholders? Our stakeholders include everyone who might avail themselves of our services; everyone who works at Whidbey General Hospital; and everyone who looks to us as their local hospital.

In the ensuing months your Board will focus our attention, time and energy on those things that make the most difference and add the greatest value to advance the interest and needs of our stakeholders.

As an organization, Whidbey General Hospital cannot do everything for everyone. Determining what it cannot or will not do is a Board responsibility. Our charges in this endeavor are five-fold:

  • Formulating the organization’s ends, vision and key goals
  • Ensuring high levels of executive management
  • Ensuring quality patient care
  • Ensuring organizational financial health
  • Ensuring Board effectiveness and efficiency.

We will use the Board Corner to keep our stakeholders abreast of our activities and progress in meeting these charges. Over the next year we will reformulate policies that will address the ends, vision and key goals of WGH. While difficult choices lay ahead, it is also an exciting time. Change is inevitable. It is also an opportunity for improvement. I invite your support as we move through these uncertain times.
