What We Do

Our Normal Day

We serve a population of over 60,000 people. There are 6 paramedic level ambulances stationed strategically around the island every day 365 days a year. Additionally through partnerships with North and Central Whidbey fire departments using Whidbey General Hospital ambulances and equipment, we are able to utilize an additional 2 extra basic life support, (BLS) ambulances during times of high call volume. WGH EMS is unique in it's ability to both shrink and expand rapidly as real life needs arise to a maximum of 11 ambulances .

How WGH EMS Works For You

Whidbey Island's geography presents unique challenges in terms of the availability of resources and the timely, efficient and fiscally responsible delivery of emergency medical pre-hospital care. WGH EMS has been meeting that challenge for over 25 years. WGH EMS is structured in such a way as to allow for the rapid expansion of the 6 full time ambulances to over 11, in times of high call volume or disaster.

Thank you to those agencies that help us help you

WGH EMS would like the thank all the different agencies that work closely and in concert with us to help provide the best possible care for our patients in their time of greatest need.

WGH EMS Employees Volunteer

As a group, WGH EMS employees volunteer countless hours of their personal time to the community of Whidbey  Island. Weather coaching soccer, or baseball, teaching a first responder or EMT class, or being an active volunteer with one of the various fire districts serving Whidbey Island. For our employees Emergency Medical Services is not just a job.

WGH EMS Works In The Community

If you attend a public event such as the Whidbey Island Marathon, Island County Fair, the Coupeville Arts Festival, a horse show, or local football game you will no doubt see the familiar blue and white WGH EMS ambulance present, helping out with minor injuries, taking a blood pressure or offering advice.
