Acute Care (Medical/Surgery Unit)

The Medical/Surgical Unit is a 37-bed unit staffed 24 hours a day with an all-licensed staff of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Many of the registered nurses are certified by the American Nurses Association for their expertise in medical-surgical nursing. The unit is equipped with a state-of-the-art telemetry monitoring system for cardiac patients. Nurses are equipped with a wide variety of skills, and routinely care for medical, surgical, and pediatric patients.

Care managers work with your doctor to ensure the highest quality of patient care in the proper setting.

Critical Care Unit

The Critical Care Unit at Whidbey General Hospital is a seven bed unit that has been set aside for the care of people with symptoms of a heart attack, or for those with medical or surgical conditions requiring close observation. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art monitors and staffed with specially qualified nurses.

Dietitian Services

Erin Simms

A registered dietitian works as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide nutritional care to all inpatients at WGH in accordance with hospital administrative policies, standards of JACHO, and the American Dietetic Association. Individual outpatient nutrition education is available for patients with diabetes, cardiac disease, congestive heart failure, weight management, or other nutrition therapy prescribed by a physician. Our dietitian is a Certified Diabetic Educator and participates in our Diabetes Education Classes.

Emergency Department

Whidbey General Hospital’s Trauma Level 3 Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department treats approximately 15,000 adults and children every year, for minor ailments to life-threatening emergencies. The thirteen-bed department is staffed with highly trained physicians and nurses around the clock.

Food Services

The Food Service department at WGH provides quality food that meets the nutritional and therapeutic needs of our patients. The WGH cafe serves three hot meals per day, including heart healthy and a la carte dishes for visitors and our staff.

Home Health Care & Hospice

Home care

The Home Health Care multidisciplinary team provides an individualized approach to meet your health care needs in your home. Home Health cooperates with your physician to provide a variety of services including skilled nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical social work services, and home health aide services depending on your condition and situation.

Laboratory

WGH lab currently provides a diverse range of testing services to hospital patients and physician offices in the community, including state-of-the-art testing in Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Blood Banking, Serology and Microbiology. Our transfusion products are provided by Puget Sound Blood Center. We store these products on site so they are available for transfusion when a physician determines the need for his/her patient.

Lifeline Emergency Response

Lifeline is an emergency response system enabling the elderly or people with health problems to live independently. One press of the lightweight, waterproof help button activates a small in-home unit called a communicator. It puts the subscriber in touch with a caring Lifeline monitor who is there to help, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
