The Life Center for Essential Wellness

 

 

Formerly known as Cardiac Rehabilitation, the Life Center for Essential Wellness name more accurately reflects the services offered by this special department.  The services are provided on site.  Life Center clinicians travel to all areas of the island to promote healthy lifestyle changes. Cardiac Wellness

Cardiac Wellness, formerly known as Cardiac Rehab, is a secondary prevention program that educates people about reducing the risk of future cardiac events through exercise, nutrition, and heart healthy information.

Cholesterol (Heartwise) Risk Factor Screening

Cardiac disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. There is a lot a person can do to help prevent or reduce the risk of heart disease through risk factor modification such as exercise, weight loss, controlling high cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, smoking cessation and relaxation.

Congestive Heart Failure

The Life Center offers Congestive Heart Failure education classes by appoiintment. The goal of this class is to provide empowering knowledge and to create balance in your life. There are many lifesyle changes that can reduce complications and potentially reduce hospital readmissions.

Employee Fitness

A self-referred program in which an employee can meet with an Exercise Physiologist. Together you will design an exercise program specific to your needs through:

  • Cardiorespiratory Endurance
  • Muscular Fitness
  • Flexibility

COST: $25 per hour

Open to all employees.

Heartwise Community Education Classes

Knowledge about heart disease, stroke and the effects of diabetes on the heart, can help people take action to prevent or reduce the complications from these diseases . Starting in February, the Life Center will offer community education classes on these topics.

The Purpose of Post Partum Exercise is to establish a baseline exercise program for post partum mothers to help them achieve pre-pregnancy physical fitness through:

Tobacco Cessation / Quit Smoking

In collaboration with Island County Health Department and the Whidbey General Hospital Foundation, we offer a four-part series of classes for Tobacco Cessation. Topics covered are:

  • Tobacco and Addiction
  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy and Medications
  • Health Effects of Tobacco Use
  • Tools to Stop Smoking and for Quitting Tobacco Use
  • Exercise
  • Food
  • Stress
  • Relapse Prevention

When you attend all four classes, we offer a voucher for a free box of nicotine replacement patches.

These classes are FREE.

The instructor is a certified tobacco treatment specialist.

Whidbey Wellness

The Whidbey Wellness program is designed to improve wellness in individuals who have experienced difficulty losing weight and achieving wellness. Participants will learn realistic and useful strategies to modify your lifestyle that will help you change your way of thinking about diet and exercise.

  • Participants must have a Body Mass Index > 25.
  • Participants agreee to avoid diets such as Atkins, Dr. Phil, South Beach, Slim Fast, Prism, etc.
  • Participants agree to avoid diet supplements and appetite suppressants.
  • Participants agree to commit to 150 minutes of additional exercise each week.

Whidbey Wellness for Whidbey Teens

Whidbey General Hospital's Life Center for Essential Wellness would like to introduce a new service entitled:

WHIDBEY TEENS
This program has been designed to improve wellness in adolescents between the ages of 14 to 17 who meet the minimum registration requirements for participation.

  • Participants must have a Body Mass Index (BMI)-for-age percentile > 85%, and/or Metabolic Syndrome or Diabetes.
  • Sports Physical, Lipid & Glucose Panel.

Participants will learn realistic and useful strategies to modify their lifestyle that will help change their way of thinking about diet and exercise.

Each session includes 45 minutes of education & 45 minutes of exercise.
